Adanowsky and Devendra Banhart Talk with NOWNESS



NOWNESS: In the video for “You Are the One” you share some pretty steamy nude scenes together, and Devendra engages in some gender bending. How’d that come about?



DB: I just remember that I showed up to this house and there was a bunch of naked people. I put on this dress. It was really tight and it really hurt. And for me, drag’s the only kick, you know? I don’t remember if there was any concept, maybe there was? People were dead? Purgatory?



AJ: [Director Marc-Edouard Leon] told me it was like an orgy and I said, alright! But I was just arriving from Paris and I was not at all into the sex orgy thing.



DB: Because you had just come from an orgy.



NOWNESS: Now that Adan is living in Mexico, how is it to be reunited in LA again?



DB: Adan is a really special human being. I’m honored to have gotten to write a song with him, but even more so to know him. I really do love him very much and you can’t really convey this in an interview but I’m getting emotional talking about how fond I am of another human being.



AJ: Me too. I don’t see a lot of Devendra but he’s important for me. He has a beautiful soul, really. It’s true I always think that. You’re a beautiful human being. I’m really shy to say that in front of you but it’s true. I love you very much.
